More visitors in Year 4
Thank you to Paige, Lilly, Mariana, David, Sofia who have put together this excellent report for the second parent visitor in Year 4.
On Friday the 14th of December 2019, Paige’s mum came in our classroom to share her job with us. It was very interesting because she is a prison officer and it is something we didn’t know much about.
She works in a prison for minors which means that the young people are between 15 and 18 years old. If they commit a crime before this age, they can be punished but they don’t go to a real prison. Her prison is bigger than The Bewbush Academy (around 600 people) and there is a school inside the prison.
To do this job she needed to do a 10-week training course. She has only just started to be a prison officer but really loves her job even if she thinks it is very demanding. Her favourite part is to help the young people avoid making the same mistakes again. She told us that everybody should be treated respectfully even if they have made the wrong choices in the past.
She needs to wear a uniform and has a chain attached to her trousers so nobody can steal her keys. She showed us how they search young people when they come in. This is to avoid them bringing in dangerous objects.
We want to say a big thank you to Paige’s mum for taking on her personal time to come and talk to us about her unusual job.
We hope to receive more adults in our class so we can share more articles with you. If you would like to come in to speak to the class about your job, please contact the Year 4 class teacher.
