1MAY29 - Head's update - 5

1st May 2020

Dear Parents / Carers,

We have now completed six weeks of our new way of working, I really hope you are all alright and surviving the shutdown.  It is so important we follow the Government’s guidance and observe the social distancing rules and hopefully we will all get through this national crisis.  I am already hearing that some of our families and our staff’s families are losing loved ones, especially grandparents.  If your family has lost a loved one please accept my condolences, this will be a difficult time for our whole school community.

On Monday 4th May between 1.30pm and 2.30pm we will be ready at the front of the building to hand out new learning packs.  We are not able to deliver these packs, we really do need you to come and collect them during your daily exercise.  We have produced a new curriculum for the next two weeks.  The English and maths tasks will continue as previously but the ‘topic’ based activity has drastically changed.  We have chosen a theme for each week and the whole family will follow this theme with a range of different activities to keep you busy.  Some of the activities are the same for children in years 3 & 4 as they are in years 5 & 6 and sometimes there will be a slight difference. We have done this to help you as a family and to make it easier for older siblings to support younger ones.  I would very much like to hear your feedback about the new curriculum, it is intended to make home learning easier.  If most of you like it we will continue with it.

The Themes

Week beginning Monday 4th May -       My Family

Week beginning Monday 11th May   -       Where I Live

Thank you for picking up the phone to the teachers who are checking in with you to see if you and your children are ok or if you need some support.  Since telling you they will be calling you and withholding their numbers so many of you have answered the call.  Could you all be aware of these calls please, the school still has a responsibility to safeguard all the children in our community. On top of this the teachers want to maintain a link with their pupils.

Some unscrupulous people are currently generating emails suggesting ways of helping you to access free school meal vouchers, these are scams, please do not give them your bank details. Vouchers are ONLY being sent from school on a fortnightly basis. If you are having any difficulty with your vouchers or are entitled to vouchers and have not received them please contact the school on 01293 534897  or  email us on admin@bewbush-tkat.org. Please check your SPAM/JUNK email first, as many of the emails went into SPAM folders.  Thank you.

Did you see the video the staff made for all the children?  A big thank you to everyone who took part, especially Mrs Ford who edited it all together, I can’t say it was great fun as we were all on our own recording ourselves.  Another thank you to Mrs Sheik who filmed a tour of the school to show the children that it’s still here waiting for them to return.

Learning during Covid19 - Guidance for Parents.pdf

If your child is keen to access more learning than we are providing please access the BBC Bitesize website for a very comprehensive choice of ideas.

Don’t forget you are allowed to go out for your daily exercise in household groups but please don’t allow your children to mix with children from other households, it’s increasing their and your risk of catching the virus.  I really do hope to see you all very soon.

Take care,

Christine Dickens
