Art
The Bewbush Academy's Art Curriculum aims high.
At The Bewbush Acaemy, our aim is for pupils to see themselves as artists. We want to ensure they are engaged, inspired and challenged by studying a range of artists and artwork. They will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own ‘masterpieces’. We hope that by the time every child leaves primary school they can feel as if they have found an area of the visual arts that is relevant and engaging to them – that might be through drawing, making, designing or talking about art.
Our Art curriculum provides many different kinds of opportunities to ensure that each child can find the thing which strikes a chord with them. This means covering lots of different disciplines, techniques, materials and approaches.
In order to prepare pupils for their future learning in Art, we aim to introduce them to key substantive concepts including:
- Shape
- Texture
- Pattern
- Line
- Form and Space
- Colour
The Bewbush Academy's Art Curriculum will broaden our children's horizons.
Our Art curriculum helps build knowledge and understanding in pupils as to some of the ways art is relevant to all our lives. By combining technical skills with contextual and conceptual understanding our curriculum helps ensure every pupil feels entitled to embrace their own creativity as something which is important to them, and something which is valued by society.
The Bewbush Academy's Art Curriculum builds confidence.
We want pupils to develop the confidence to experiment and invent their own works of art. Throughout their time at The Bewbush Academy, children will build confidence through their learning of Art by;
- Exploring and recording their ideas and experiences, producing creative work.
- Practising their techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture
- Developing an understanding of how to use subject-specific language to evaluate and analyse creative works.
- Learning about great artists and the development of their art.
