The Bewbush Academy's Geography Curriculum aims high.

We aim to inspire pupils to become curious and explorative thinkers with a diverse knowledge of the world; in other words, to think like a
geographer.  We hope to shape children into curious and inspired geographers with respect and appreciation for the world around them
alongside an understanding of the interconnection between the human and the physical.

We want children to build an awareness of how Geography shapes their lives at multiple scales and over time. In order to prepare pupils for their future learning in Geography, we aim to introduce them to key substantive concepts including:

  • Sustainable Development
  • Scale
  • Place and Space
  • Physical and Human Processes
  • Interdependence
  • Environmental Impact
  • Cultural Awareness and Diversity

The Bewbush Academy's Geography Curriculum will broaden our children's horizons.

Our Geogrpahy curriculum will support children to develop an appreciation for how humans are impacted by and have evolved around the physical geography surrounding them and how humans have had an impact on the environment, both positively and negatively. We hope to encourage pupils to become resourceful, active citizens who will have the skills to contribute to and improve the world around them.

The Bewbush Academy's Geography Curriculum builds confidence.

We want pupils to develop the confidence to question and observe places, measure and record necessary data in various ways, and analyse and present their findings. Throughout their time at The Bewbush Academy, children will build confidence through their learning of Geography by;

  • Developing both geographical skills and knowledge.
  • Thinking critically, with the ability to ask perceptive questions.
  • Explaining and analysing evidence.
  • Developing fieldwork skills across each year group.
  • Building a deep interest and knowledge of their locality and how it differs from other areas of the world.
  • Developing an understanding of geographical concepts, terms and vocabulary.
